Non-resident proof of permit. If you reside in a state that recognizes the validity of the Utah CFP or has reciprocity with Utah, you must obtain a CFP or CCW from your home state and submit a copy of it with your renewal application. For a list of reciprocal states click here. Residency will be determined by your state-issued identification. If your state does not recognize the Utah permit this does not apply.
Once we receive a renewal application the permit will be renewed for the next five years after a background check is accomplished. A new card will be sent out to the permit holder through the mail.
Occasionally a permit holder gets involved in criminal activity which results in the revocation of his or her permit. The renewal process also includes conducting another background check. However, the renewal is automatic. There will be no break in the validity period of a permit. Even in cases where a criminal incident needs to be investigated, the permit remains valid until the investigation is complete. If corrective action is ultimately needed, the permit holder will be notified.
